I had the absolute pleasure of spending the day aboard the HX – Fridtjof Nansen, and from the moment I stepped onto the ship, I could tell I was in for something special. While it’s a luxury vessel through and through, there’s also something incredibly professional and purpose-driven about it—it is, after all, an expedition ship, and it wears that badge proudly.
We kicked things off with a fascinating talk about the ship’s history and the amazing range of expeditions HX offers around the world. It was inspiring to hear how the ship is purpose-built for adventure, yet with no compromise on comfort. There’s a real sense that you can explore some of the most remote places on Earth in absolute style.
After the talk, I had a guided walk around the ship with one of the lovely crew members. I have to say, I was blown away by the accommodation. The cabins are beautifully appointed—spacious, comfortable, and all with incredible views (I was docked in Hamburg, and even then the views were a treat!). One cabin in particular caught my eye—it had its own private outdoor hot tub! That’s definitely going on my travel wish list.
Next stop: the restaurant. And wow—what a lunch! From the beautifully presented dishes to the excellent wine, it was all top quality. The kitchen caters to all dietary needs, I was sat next to a vegetarian and she was really pleased to see thoughtful and delicious options on offer. The service was just as impressive. Every staff member I met was friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about what they do—it made such a difference to the overall atmosphere on board.
Although my time on the HX - ZUM SCHIFF was short, it left a lasting impression. It’s the perfect blend of luxury and expedition spirit. Whether you're venturing to the Arctic or exploring the Norwegian fjords, this is a ship that promises both adventure and indulgence.
I’d happily recommend it to any of my clients looking for something a bit different—this isn’t just a cruise, it’s a true experience.
