This wasn’t a holiday for us – this was a full tour of the ship, from top to bottom, so I can confidently tell you what it’s really like onboard. My time onboard Ambition impressed me so much I was blown away!

I have not done many cruises, however, considering what I have previously experienced, I found Ambassador to be very different with the warmth, friendliness, and sheer genuineness of the Ambition’s crew. They’re not just polite – they’re proud, happy, and engaged. The kind of people who remember your name and your drink order.
Whether it was the smiling steward, the spa therapist, or the head chef giving us a tour of the galley – every single person loved their job. That energy flows through the ship.
It’s no exaggeration to say: Ambition’s crew are the heartbeat of the ship – and this sets the cruise line apart from the rest.
The Ship – Small in Size, Huge in Personality
Ambition is not one of those 5,000 passenger mega-ships. She’s smaller, more intimate, and so much easier to navigate. You won’t need a map. You’ll never queue for a drink. And you’ll always find a cosy quiet corner to unwind.
Ambition sails regularly from Bristol! No airports, no baggage weight limits, and no crowds – just smooth sailing from a local port. This is so easy.
Dining – Where You’re Treated Like a Guest, Not Just a Table Number
We were really lucky to tour every venue onboard – and honestly, the food exceeded our expectations!
Here’s what’s on the menu:
• Buckingham Restaurant – A beautifully traditional dining room serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with full table service. Think silverware, white tablecloths and a daily-changing menu.
• Holyrood Buffet – Casual and convenient, but never scruffy. A great selection of hot and cold dishes, salads, and desserts – always fresh, always topped up.
• Alfresco Grill – Poolside bites and sunshine-ready snacks – burgers, hot dogs, salads and more.
• Saffron – Indian flavours with flair. Fragrant, vibrant, and utterly delicious.
• Olympus – Mediterranean favourites done beautifully – think grilled fish, olive oil, and perfectly seasoned plates.
• Sea & Grass – Fine cuts and a special-occasion vibe. One for the foodies.
• Chef’s Table – The ultimate indulgence. A multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings and expert service. Fine dining at sea done properly.
The afternoon tea was a delightful surprise too – scones, finger sandwiches and loose-leaf tea served with full silver service.
Bars & Lounges – Something for Every Mood
• Purple Turtle Pub – Lively, cosy and full of atmosphere – the perfect place to unwind with live music and a pint.
• Raffles Bar – A little more refined – ideal for pre-dinner cocktails.
• Observatory Lounge – Big views and smooth tunes. A lovely spot for reading, relaxing or enjoying a jazz set.
• Atrium Café – People-watching with a flat white. What’s not to love?
Entertainment & Activities – Elegant, Entertaining and Just the Right Pace
Other daytime options include:
• Craft Studio – from watercolours to card-making
• Dance classes – learn a foxtrot or a salsa
• Library & Card Room – peaceful and well-stocked
• Quizzes, talks, and live music – never too loud, always good fun
This is entertainment tailored for adults – polished and professional without feeling over-the-top.
Wellness at Sea – Because Relaxation Matters
We toured the spa, and it’s beautifully laid out with treatment rooms, a sauna, and a relaxation area. Book a massage, get your nails done, or simply retreat from the world for an hour.
There’s also a gym if you fancy a workout (we looked at it from the café… while eating cake).
