All about Emma
It’s unbelievable that I began working in travel 36 years ago! I started out as an apprentice and am proud to have been Branch Manager for other travel agencies over the years – however, my love always lay in smaller, quaint market-town shops, and so when Miles Morgan Travel were advertising for a Travel Specialist, the offer was too tempting to resist, and I couldn’t be happier to be here.
My ultimate holiday destination will always be the USA: I’ve travelled it extensively, because there’s so much variety from state to state, that I could never tire of it. I particularly love Phoenix, Arizona – enough to name my daughter after it! I’m lucky enough to have visited many of USA’s sprawling National Parks, including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Big Bend, Zion, Antelope Canyon, Red Rock Canyon, Sequoia, the American Rockies and the Everglades. The scenery is surreal, and so diverse from one to another. I’ve regularly frequented Las Vegas, and I’ve ticked off Chicago, New York, LA, San Francisco, Palm Springs, New Orleans and Memphis, to name just a few other hotspots! Florida will always be a favourite of mine, having done Disney and Universal more times than I can remember, as well as the beach resorts of Miami, The Keys, Tallassee and the Emerald Coast. St Augustine is an absolute must-see in Florida too: it’s the oldest city in the USA, and is a Spanish Colonial walled city, with incredible architecture as well as stunning beaches. Another, perhaps more personal highlight for me was visiting Boston and New England in the Fall; wandering up the residential avenues, with each house decorated for Halloween, and the leaves of the trees above in beautiful reds and russets and browns, was such a beautiful, humbling moment.
Canada has also got such a diverse array of landscapes and adventures, that I’ve enjoyed hugely over both trips I’ve taken there. The first: the breathtaking Niagara Falls and four nights in the gorgeous city of Toronto. The second: the Rocky Mountaineer from Calgary to Vancouver, visiting the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain, Vancouver Island and the Butchart Gardens. I had the most incredible time, and love booking customers to go and see it for themselves!
Closer to home, I will always have a special place in my heart for Malta, as it was my first holiday abroad as a child. It was our go-to destination, and I learnt to swim and snorkel there, so going back now is incredibly nostalgic. I’ve been seven times, and I love the people, the atmosphere, the food and the scenery. There’s a surprising amount to do there, for such a small island: the Blue Grotto, the Mosta Dome, and, of course, Valetta is such a beautiful capital city! When my dad retired, years ago, he restored the Gloster Meteor Aircraft that’s in the Aviation Museum on the island, with his friends – a fascinating place to visit for World War history.
Italy is another hotspot of mine! I’ve been to Sorrento multiple times, and absolutely love it. The city itself has an amazing atmosphere, particularly at night, with gorgeous little side-streets with shops, and delicious restaurants. From there, the picturesque Amalfi Coast is easily accessible too, with the Isle of Capri and Positano, and of course the heartbreaking sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius itself are wonderful, haunting daytrips. Further north, Venice is also an absolute bucket-list destination; I fell in love with it instantly, and I can’t wait to go back. Even the water-taxi transfer from the airport to my hotel was an experience! It’s unbelievably beautiful – and the Gondola rides are a must.
Recently, through Miles Morgan Travel, I’ve also been introduced to the world of river cruising. It was unfamiliar territory to me, but I feel so inspired to take a trip on a river cruise myself soon! We boarded in Vienna on the River Danube, experiencing a variety of different cruise lines, and I was amazed with what they have to offer, and the diversity between them, to suit any taste. I’d recommend it to anyone, for a different flavour of holiday, and to tick off a plethora of iconic destinations!
If you’d like to know more, or are thinking about your next holiday, I’d love to meet you in our Nailsworth branch.
