My time on APT was fantastic! From the moment I first stepped onboard, I was greeted by all the friendly staff, and I was blown by how stunning MS Capella was. The ship’s lounge was extremely spacious and stylish, surrounded by lots of comfy seating, a huge selection of teas, coffees machines and a great bar area.
The cabins were beautiful just like the rest of the ship, and were well equipped with everything you would need during your stay. The staff made it very clear when all the guests first arrived that if needed anything else at all to make our stay more comfortable, that we could go to them for anything. However, I did not find anything else I needed whilst onboard and the beds were incredible, I slept extremely well and could have happily taken one home with me!
The cruise director was extremely approachable, chatty and light. We were made to feel very relaxed upon our arrival, he was very knowledgeable throughout the cruise and made sure all the guests were well informed of the daily information we needed.
Mealtimes were waited on very attentively and the staff really went above and beyond to accommodate our every want and need. We had a Bavarian themed day which included lots of regional foods that were interesting to try and have a glimpse into the cuisines of where we were visiting.
Onboard we had wonderful entertainment in the evenings, and we also had a cooking demonstration during one of the days whilst sailing. The entertainment in the evenings included quizzes, music and even silent discos! My favourite evening was the Bavarian themed night, the traditional band that came onboard got everyone joining in and it was great fun! Our APT host also shared that APT are expanding their entertainment programs onboard even more for guests so there will be lots to enjoy on and offboard!
During the days we had lovely guides showing us around all the places we were visiting along the Danube and the optional excursions on offer were also very good!
Passau was the first place we visited, our guide Cornelia was so informative, and fun, and also extremely helpful with explaining the difference in styles of Cathedrals and what importance that held in society at the time. I definitely felt I had learnt a lot that day and found it very interesting.
Passau is very historic, but we also discovered as you go further into the city from the old town it had lots of shopping centres and places to look around too with familiar stores such as TK Maxx, C&A and JD Sports, which made it very diverse and a nice place to visit if you like both culture and a bit of shopping!
Whilst onboard we visited Cesky Krumlov for the day and that had tons to do and see. Whilst we were there, we visited a beautiful castle that had the most amazing views of Cesky Krumlov - it really was like something out of a fairytale!
In the castle they also had a bear sanctuary to help bring in rescued bears back to health to hopefully be released again. We were not expecting to see bears at all so that was quite a surprise to add to the day! Although it wasn’t that sunny, it was still extremely beautiful and somewhere I can imagine being very lovely in the summer. There were lots of restaurants and bars along the river running through Cesky Krumlov, that I can imagine being wonderful to sit out in and relax! We had lunch at a family run Italian called Papas, which I would highly recommend, lovely staff and great, fresh food.
It was a lovely opportunity to be able to visit and somewhere I most likely would never have known about or thought to have visited had I not been onboard! Which is one of the beauties of river cruising!
Having been my second time now on a river cruise I can say, I’ve definitely got the bug!
I had a fabulous time exploring the Danube with APT, if you would like to hear more or have any questions for me, please get in touch anytime.
