4* Sunrise Beach
Overview
Sunrise Beach
Protaras, Cyprus
Star Rating: ****
The Sunrise Beach Hotel’s best bits include an on-the-beach setting and a handy sunbed allocation system.
Thanks to its beachfront position, you can flip-flop between the hotel’s pool and the sea in a few steps. Protaras’ main strip isn’t much further away, where you’ll find a clutch of shops, bars, restaurants and cafès.
One of the hotel’s big draws is its dine-around programme. It means you can have dinner in a choice of restaurants, which serve the likes of American, Asian, Italian, Brazilian and Greek cuisine. Plus, there's a Seafood place at the sister hotel, Sunrise Pearl, which guests can use for a small fee.
Tie the knot with a legal or symbolic ceremony, or renew your vows, and select from semi-private or private reception areas based on your guest count. Couples get a free massage, a candlelit dinner and a Champagne breakfast, too.
What's Included:
- Return flights from Bristol
- 7 nights accommodation
Facilities
Facilities
The Sunrise beach serves up a lagoon-style swimming pool finished off with sunbeds, parasols, a swim-up bar and a built-in whirlpool section. As an added bonus, you'll be allocated your own sunlounger for the length of your stay on arrival, so no need to be up with the sun to claim a bed. There's an adults-only number, too.
Restaurant & Bar
There are a couple of restaurants to choose from. One serves a mixture of Mediterranean fare, while the other specialises in international buffet dishes. A la carte dining comes courtesy of an on-site American diner, a Brazilian Steakhouse, a seafood restaurant next door at the Sunrise Pearl, and four bistros on Protaras’ main strip, which serve Greek, Asian and Italian cuisine.
Pool
The hotel’s lagoon-style pool is inches from the beach, so you’ll get close-up views of the Mediterranean Sea from your lounger. There’s a separate splash area for children, plus heated pool options in early April and from late October. A thatched-roof swim-up bar serves the adults-only pool. The hotel has a clever system in place, which means each guest is allocated a sunbed at check-in.
Sports & Activities
There’s a games room* where you can play air-hockey, table tennis or pool. You can also try out tennis and squash – equipment* can be hired from reception. A watersports centre* offers a choice of activities like banana boat rides and glass-bottomed canoeing.
Entertainment
For after-dinner drinks, head to the hotel’s lounge bar. It does a good line in cocktails, and its terrace offers up impressive horizon views. There’s a great timetable of entertainment that includes illusionists, dance shows and acoustic performances. It all takes place in the hotel’s lounge bar.
Spa & Beauty
A peaceful spa* is located in the neighbouring Sunrise Pearl Hotel. The menu’s more unusual therapies include a snow chamber experience and sea salt exfoliation. There’s a health club here, which houses a sauna and a fully equipped gym.
